Activities

Game drives, in an open safari vehicle, are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon every day in search of animals – both large and small. Experienced, knowledgeable and personable rangers are paired with local trackers, and together they ensure a first-class safari experience. Trackers sit up at the front of the vehicle looking for fresh animal tracks, while rangers skillfully navigate into ravines and through thickets in pursuit of fantastic game sightings. Close encounters are guaranteed, and the animals are not threatened by our presence thanks to our sound conservation management policies. Expect one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of The Big Five, and much more – including over 300 bird species. A treat for keen birders! Guided walks with an armed ranger may also be arranged. Walks are usually arranged in the early hours during the summer months when temperatures are more moderate. Being on foot affords a unique and altogether different view of the bush (source).

“Amazing”

We stayed four nights in water facing room and could not have had a better time. Our guides Roy and Chris made our trip special.
We managed to see every animal on our list within the first couple of drives and parked within feet so that we could watch and enjoy our experience.
All the staff at the lodge were helpful friendly and always had a smile.
The food is plentiful with a good selection morning noon and night.
We are very much looking forward to our next visit.

“Elephants came to visit right outside our room!”

You may find a more expensive safari lodge but I don’t think you can find a better one. We had a villa and wished we had a room with a view of the waterhole (there is no water in it now), but we had elephants come to visit right outside our room to drink from the plunge pool, How cool is that! Each day right from our room we saw waterbuck, kudu, and other animals. The food was very good, the guides and trackers very knowledgeable and the staff could not have been nicer! There is Wifi in the main lodge but not in all rooms and no TV which I thought quite wonderful!

“Absolutely wonderful stay”

We travelled to Arathusa after a few days staying in the Panorama region – this safari lodge was chose by Sundowners Holidays (excellent company based in Brighton, who arranged the most wonderful trip). This lodge is in the most beautiful setting, the rooms are truly amazing, the staff is really wonderful, food was fabulous, and you are truly amongst the wildlife (elephants come and drink from the plunge pools at night!). Our Safari ranger was Roy – so knowledgeable, friendly and gave us the most amazing experience (along with Chris our tracker). This lodge is truly exceptional and we were very sad to leave. Highly recommend – and we will be back.

“This is no ordinary Hut!”

Arathusa was 5-star in every category, comfortable, inviting, adventurous, relaxing….
Very comfortable accommodations, our “Hut” was larger than most 1-bedroom city apartments! Open, light and bright, with great indoor and outdoor space. Apparently, the locals think so too, as we had a Bull Elephant visit and drink from our pool one afternoon! We also had a male Leopard on property that kept us from enjoying daily walks.
The people, every single person, were always smiling and seemed to truly love what they do, and where they do it!
Our guide, oh my, part entertainer, driver, storyteller, and wildlife aficionado, Ryan was “one hot mess” as they say in the South (he’s laughing over this right now!). We learned and experienced so much! I have to say though, while everyone was quite captivated at seeing “a kill” by the little lady Leopard, it was a bit for me to stomach. We saw her kill twice during our 4-day stay. I loved to watch her hunt though! So sleek and cunning! The wildlife sightings created lifetime memories.
The cuisine rivaled a Michelin dining experience. Varied menu, beautifully presented and skillfully prepared. Even with my dietary restrictions (lactose-free), I had wonderful, well thought out dining options.
Of our 12 days in South Africa, the 4 spent at Arathusa were our favorite. We will definitely return!!
