Tree Camp – Accommodation – Iconic Africa

Tree Camp is regally positioned on the periphery of Londolozi’s collection of five luxury lodges, each studded along the lush Sand River. As the very first safari lodge to be accorded Relais and Chateaux status in the early 1990’s, it exudes an air of excellence within the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve as well as across the world.

Poised luxury

As its name infers, Tree Camp seems to be suspended in the canopy of magnificent foliage along the river with an expansive outlook over the northern plains of the Sand River. Central to the dappled deck is an ageing tree trunk that supports a robust Leopard Orchid. This extraordinary epiphyte is not only family owner, Shan Varty’s, much-loved flower, but also the shape that makes up Londolozi’s treasured emblem. It is fed once a year and if you are lucky enough to experience it in full bloom, it is believed to bring you thriving bush karma. The multi-level deck area incorporates a kaleidoscope of eclectic and classic textures and is a special viewpoint as elephants come down to drink.

Tree Camp completed a full refurbishment in March 2015 and the outcome is spectacular to say the very least. Six luxury suites embody the perfect balance between elegance and charm. A spacious entrance hall, floor-to-roof glass windows inviting in the river views and a private plunge pool are complimented by deep armchairs, a sunken bubble bath and an antique writing desk for ticking off your Londolozi bird and animals checklist

Height of romance

Tree Camp encapsulates a love affair with Africa. Honeymoon couples are congratulated at the candle lit Champagne bar and pathways are lantern lit leading to king-sized beds draped in ivory mosquito nets. The Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is world renowned for the exceptional viewing of the elusive leopard and Tree Camp’s collection of artwork pays tribute to these magnificent cats.

Connoisseurship

In aligning with Relais and Chateaux’s philosophy – striving to improve on a unique overall experience for travellers – Tree Camp constantly delivers an outstanding journey in terms of people, culture and cuisine. This mantra is protected whole-heartedly by the pride of the Londolozi family and the love of what they do. Gourmet meals and decadent wines hand-picked from South Africa’s finest vineyards leave every guest craving the next African cuisine experience.

A formidable guide and tracker team will explore with you a possible traversing area of over 16 000 hectares. Their combined knowledge and passion makes for an enviable partnership and more importantly excellent game viewing. The diversity of the property allows lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino to inhabit the reserve in abundance and the cooler mornings and evenings maximise the possibility of encountering the wildlife on game drive. Guides are competent in assisting guests with their photography and will always try their utmost best to get the perfect positioning for ultimate viewing.

Diverse Camp Life

During the day guests are indulged with fresh mouth-watering spreads or for an indulgence of another kind, let one of the experienced massage therapists heal you in the quiet privacy of your own room! For the little more energetic guest, yoga classes are instructed daily and bush runs can be arranged on request. Just a short amble along a footpath to the neighbouring Varty Camp allows guests to browse in the Londolozi Living gift shop, work out in the fitness centre or even explore the local culture by visiting the Shangaan cultural village.

There is no better way to experience the African bushveld in supreme luxury than to visit Londolozi Tree camp. Space is limited and although children under the age of 16 are not accommodated in this camp, they may be catered for if guests book the camp exclusively.

Londolozi Tree Camp is just over a five-hour drive from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport although Iconic Africa recommends an easy direct flight to Londolozi’s airstrip or a 3 hour flight and quick connection from Cape Town Airport.
