Top 5 Lodges in Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Located just next door to South Africa’s world-famous Kruger National Park, private Sabi Sands Game Reserve is consistently considered one of the best places in Africa to go on safari. The park also plays host to some of the world’s most luxurious small hotels. There are many properties, most with several lodges offering a huge range of experiences. Spectacular settings are a defining feature of Sabi Sands lodges, with some accessed exclusively by winding cliff paths, rope bridges or long bush walks. All of them match their uniqueness with a hefty price tag, but whether you choose to stay in a romantic tented camp or in a luxury chalet, the experience will be worth saving up for. In this article, we look at five of Sabi Sands’ best lodges, in no particular order.

Ulusaba Rock Lodge Roderick Eime/Flickr/CC BY-ND 2.0

Owned by Virgin, Ulusaba feels at times more like a glorious grown-up climbing frame than the oasis of luxury it actually is. There are two lodges, the first of which is Rock Lodge, set high amidst the boulders of a rocky koppie with views that stretch to the ends of time. Safari Lodge is situated below on the banks of a dry riverbed and is made up of elegant tree houses linked by a series of rope bridges. A Cub’s Club at Rock Lodge welcomes children up to 11 years of age.
