The Luxury Resort Where You’ll See Elephants Without Leaving Your Room

The Lion Sands Game Reserve has been named one of the best resorts and safari camps in Africa by Condé Nast Traveler’s readers, and it’s easy to see why. The luxe villas at its Ivory Lodge (from $1,171 per night per person) have private viewing decks (with plunge pools), which afford beautiful views of the Sabie River and Kruger National Park. It’s not unusual to spot elephants, crocodiles, and antelope without leaving the suites, which were designed by Nicholas More, Robert More, and Karen Wygers. All guest-tailored meals can be served in-room via a personal butler or through a “Bulawayo Hatch” for invisible delivery. Catered game drives, bush walks, bird watching, clay pigeon shooting, helicopter rides, and hippo tours are among the long menu of activities to choose from during a stay at the reserve.
