SINGITA EXPLORE CAMP – SINGITA GRUMETI RESERVE – WESTERN SERENGETI

Singita Explore is a private use tented camp in the Serengeti that moves around during the year to provide optimal game viewing in the exclusive Serengeti Grumeti area.  The camp has been designed to operate on a minimal amount of energy consumption ensuring as little impact on the environment as possible. 

The custom-designed tents have functional luxury touches and the camp enjoys exclusive settings in the Serengeti offering you the chance to immersing yourself in the wildlerness.

The camp has a maximum of six tented suites catering for families or friends and is fully staffed with a private Field Guide, chef and host – ensuring that activities, game drives and mealtimes can be arranged entirely around you.

Set in Singita Grumeti, which forms part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem, the camp offers access to a 350,000-acre concession on the migratory route traversed annually by more than a million wildebeest.

LOCATION

Singita Explore is located in the Singita Grumeti Reserve in western Serengeti in northern Tanzania.  The nearest airstrip is Singita Sasakwa which is around 45 – 60 minutes’ drive from the lodge.

CAMP

This quintessential wilderness camp offers you the chance to dine under the stars, sleep under canvas, cool off in the camp’s inviting plunge pool and really get closer to Africa.  Campaign-style furniture and durable canvas, leather and chrome elements echo the textures and tones of the natural surroundings.

This is an exclusive-use camp, so it is set-up based on the requirements of each booking. There are six tents that can accommodate 12 people.  Each tent has a bathroom with bucket shower, tea/coffee station and sitting area in front of the tent.

There is a mess tent, open plan lounge, dining area, library, guest computer and public rest room.

ACTIVITIES

Spanning over 350,000 acres of untouched wilderness, Singita Grumeti is located in the western Serengeti in northern Tanzania, forming part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem.

Game drives – daily game drives with professional guides and trackers provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals.  The afternoon game drive includes a night drive at the end. Game drives are all conducted in Land Cruisers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests and during your stay you are likely to spot a great variety of wildlife including cheetah, bearded wildebeest, bat eared fox, black rhino, Maasai giraffe, lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra and the rare Colobus monkey.

Walking Safaris – get out and stretch your legs in the bush with a professional and experienced guide.  This activity is available to those 16 years and older. 

Families – all activities at the camp are tailored to specifically suit the interests of each family. In the interest of safety, children may participate in game drives and bush walks at the discretion of dedicated Field Guides. The camp also offers childminding services, as well as an array of activities to keep little ones engaged and entertained.  Singita’s Mini Rangers Course is a customised, fun-filled programme that opens up a whole new world to young explorers. It includes learning how to track animals; astronomy; bush survival techniques; game, tree and bird-spotting competitions, as well as nature quizzes.

Community tour – visit the Environmental Education Centre which was developed for the young people of the local communities to meet the students and learn about the programme. The Centre is dedicated to instilling in its students an understanding of the Serengeti Ecosystem and provides education on the rationale behind “protected areas” and on general, local and global environmental issues.

Boutique and Gallery – not your regular curio shop, you will find original treasures that have been gathered from all corners of the African continent.        

Premier Wine Boutique – Singita’s cellars are home to some of the most sought-after private reserves and vintage wines and whether you are a connoisseur or just enjoy the occasional glass of wine, experienced sommeliers will introducing you to a vast selection of varietals from all over the world.

Spa, archery and stargazing– rejuvenate and pamper yourself at the spa or enjoy some archery or stargazing.

Swimming – you can cool off in the camp’s inviting plunge pool, surrounded by stunning landscapes in the heart of the Serengeti.

Balloon Safari – charter a hot air balloon for an unforgettable ride over the treetops of the Serengeti.  You’ll skim above the grasslands and acacia forests, and at other times ascend to 1,000 feet to see the enormity of the reserve. 

Canine Unit Experience – visit the SGF Canine Unit to meet the handlers and learn more about how this specialized anti-poaching unit works to protect the Grumeti region in the Serengeti. Watch as the dogs use their skills to detect a piece of wildlife contraband hidden for the demonstration. If the dogs are working on tracking, you may be able to experience their ability to track a person through the bush. Due to the sensitive and costly nature of the programme, a donation amount of $500 per person has been set. A minimum of 2 and maximum of 6 guests is allowed per demonstration.
