Activities

Game Drives (±3 hours)
In open safari vehicles. Head out each day at sunrise and again in the late afternoon

  • Includes: a hot beverage or sundowner
  • Children 10 years and older are welcome on the twice-daily game drives
  • Children of all ages are welcome on private game drives
    *Private game drives are included in the accommodation rates for guests of:
     Fish Eagle Villa, Ivory Lodge and Hi’Nkweni Villa, Tinga Lodge.

Bush Walks (1.5-2 hours)
These are our after-breakfast walks on the wild side. Guests are immersed in the bush, rather than just observing it.

  • Children under 16 years are not permitted on the bush walks
  • Wear: neutral-coloured clothing; comfortable walking shoes; a hat; sunglasses; and sunscreen.
  • Bring along: a lightweight dry mac jacket; camera/smartphone; and binoculars

Wildlife Lectures
At times when the weather is unsuitable for safari activities, the field guides and trackers present short nature talks.
The talks are informal presentations, largely guided by interactions with guests.

Local Community Experiences (±4 hours)
More Community Trust’s (MCT’s) purpose is to empower people of local communities in which MORE operates.

  • Experience a different – and humbling – way of living;
  • Visit culturally- and historically-significant sites; and connect with local people.
  • Children of all ages are welcome to accompany their parents

Stargazing
During evening game drives or bush dinners (weather permitting), the field guides will share insights into the skies.

  • African wilderness make it an ideal location for stargazing.
    Guests will see planets and stars they have never before noticed with the naked eye.

A Night in a Treehouse 
The million-star Chalkley and Kingston (Sabi Sand) and Tinyeleti (Kruger Park) are the ultimate bush bedrooms, where romantics, adventurers
and solitude seekers alike can discover the magic of a night out in African – in complete luxury. Arrive at sunset to a picnic dinner, spend the dusk hours watching animals wander past (at a safe distance), and fall asleep counting shooting stars!

  • Booked in conjunction with lodge accommodation
  • Charged at a per person sharing per night rate, over and above the lodge accommodation rate
  • Pack an overnight bag with their essentials, leaving the rest of belongings back in the lodge suite
  • Kingston Treehouse and Tinyeleti Treehouse are suitable for families (2 adults + 2 children, 10-14 years)

Helicopter Flights
Lion Sands has partnered with Mpumalanga Helicopter Company to take guests on exhilarating flights over the gorges, rivers, waterfalls, and dramatic rock formations of the province’s escarpment and lowveld.

  • Three different flight experiences can be arranged

Golf
The nearby nine-hole Skukuza Golf Course is designed for all skill levels and is one of the world’s most unique being surrounded by a wildliferich sanctuary.
Hippo, impala, warthog, and baboons often come out to spectate

Child Policy

  • Children under 10 years are not allowed.
  • Children aged 10 – 15 years sharing with two full paying adults pay 50% of the per person adult sharing rate.
    A limited amount of inter-leading rooms are available at Lion Sands River, please discuss this with your consultant.

Mack & Madi Kids’ Programme
Tailor-made activities (5 to 11 years) a little extra freedom to explore and just be kids.

  • Activities include:
    Family morning game drives; bush orientation; bug CSI; dung tracking; spoor casting; scavenger hunts; pool games; rock painting; beading; pizza making in the bomas; cookie baking  and cupcake decorating in the kitchens and stargazing. 

Spa and Wellness
Indulgent therapies is offered by expert therapists in the quiet retreat of the lodges’ spas or open-air bush salas – a luxury unique to Africa.

  • Choose from massages, exfoliations, reflexology, and facials with Africology skincare products and essential oils, as well as manicures and pedicures.
  • Ivory Lodge and River Lodge each have a gym with the essential, state-of-the-art equipment.
  • Yogis will find no better place to stretch out any leftover tension than on their private decks overlooking the Sabie River.

Boma Dinner
A highlight while on safari,  is traditional-style dining in an African boma open to the stars

Riverbed Dinner
Tables are carried down from the lodge, the fire is lit, and lanterns light the way to tonight’s dinner.
A barbeque feast is shared, while the choir sings and nature’s night chorus joins in.

For a special occasion or just a spoil, private dining is the perfect surprise…

Family Dining
Chefs sneak in plenty of fresh fruit and veg – and treats, too… like toasted marshmallow hot chocolates around the fire.

Kosher Dining
For our Jewish guests of Ivory Lodge and River Lodge who are kosher observers, we specifically cater for your kosher needs with various options

Safari Stops
Morning coffee and hot chocolate and late-afternoon sundowners are served with an assortment of chef-made snacks by your field guide in a particularly scenic spot..
