Mala Mala – Sable Camp

“This was our first stop on our African adventure and it was amazing! We saw the Big 7 multiple times and had such up close and personal experiences with the animals, my husband had to remove the enormous camera lens he brought. We were too close! The staff was fantastic and our guide David made our trip! While we really enjoyed all of the stops on our trip, this is the one place my entire family can’t wait to return to.”

“This was our first Safari and what a way to begin! They are not kidding when they say you can see the Big 5; we saw them every day of our 4 night trip. The ranger, Robin was fantastic. His knowledge of all the various species, from their habits to their personalities was a real education. We spent time with several different Leopards as well as the Stixx Lion pride. We were fortunate to be in room 17 at Sable and we could watch the comings and goings by the River. I will never forget my time in Mala Mala. It was magical.”

“Just returned from a 2.5 week trip to Africa. The highlight of our four lodge stays was Malamala. The broad range of wildlife, plants and trees and the variety of terrain was noteworthy. In addition, the well-appointed lodge suites, great food and extremely knowledgeable rangers added to our enjoyment of Africa. In particular, we found Grant, our ranger for three days, added to our Africa experience. His range of knowledge was not surpassed during our visit. We particularly enjoyed opportunities to take short hikes during our game drives. Visiting a private game reserve provided up-close game viewing and no more than three of vehicles at any Malamala game viewing stop. These benefits were well worth a Malamala stay.”

“This place by far is on the top five places to stay in South Africa. My husband and I both joked about going home and loading up a few things and coming back to our home (room #16) because we loved this place so much! Our guide Brenden, was on top of everything. He was fantastic in not only finding the game for us but also his knowledge compassion in making sure we were comfortable both on the game drive and off. I highly recommend this place for a truly marvelous safari experience.”

“When we arrived at MalaMala, we were greeted by Roan, who would be our Ranger (and protector!) during our four night stay at the reserve. Our room was amazing; 2 separate baths and dressing areas and a lovely, comfy bed. The best part was the view from our window! We looked towards the river and could observe elephants, Cape Buffalo, nyala, kudu and other animals as they went to drink and/or play in the water. The whole camp is ungated, which is why I said that Roan was also our protector! He and Mike would escort us to our room at the end of the evening and make sure we were safely inside. He admonished us not to leave our room until the next morning! Every one of the staff and rangers were extremely efficient, kind and accommodating. They even arranged for us to have our morning coffee in the bush. And the bush drives were out of this world! Before we arrived at MalaMala, we had toured Kruger and the drives were good! But, if Roan or Mike spotted something off the path, they drove right through the bushes to show us cheetahs, leopards, cape buffalo, zebras, giraffes, ETC. from up close!”

“When you arrive you are met by your game drive ranger and he handles everything. Your luggage, what you want for beverages, hot water bottles on a cold morning ect. We just got back and there winter is the best time to go. Not hot (day time 60’s) not the rainy season so no mosquitoes, and the animals are active since it is not so hot. You go out after breakfast at 7:30 return around 11:00, have lunch at 1PM and go out again at 3PM coming back after dark around 6:45. You have a sundowner (what ever you want your ranger takes it) out in the bush around 5PM. See saw the big 5 our 1st full day and had a wonderful time. Great facility”

“Having done previous photo safaris, we thought we had seen luxury in Africa, but this topped all the rest and as for the wildlife – it was in the top 2 of the best game viewing experience ever, only rivaled by Botswana. And the 2 cannot fairly be compared. Our every need was seen to and we chose to stay out all day most days to see more wildlife. The chef and his staff packed amazing breakfast and lunch baskets and we had coffee at sunrise with some incredible views. Can’t say enough great things about the entire staff. Every single member gives 110% to the guests. Sadly, We barely had time to use our private plunge pool. The villas are huge and so luxurious. Separate dressing rooms/baths for myself and my hubby. amazing!!!”

“We visited Mala Mala for 3 days after visiting Cape Town for six nights during our Honeymoon. I don’t even know where to begin. The service was impeccable and our guide, Adam, was informative and supremely knowledgeable. The two game drives per day were outstanding complete with cocktails served at sunset in the bush! Set on 44,000 acres we saw the big five (Lion, Leopard, Water Buffalo, Rhino, and Elephant) every day! This was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend it to anyone visiting South Africa.”

“We have stayed in multiple reserves in Kenya but MalaMala was absolutely over the top! The rangers were incredibly knowledgeable (and they are with you nearly 100% of the time, sharing their knowledge over meals too), the staff very attentive, the food was outstanding (with many vegetarian options). Our room was amazing with two bathrooms in each connecting double (4 bathrooms for a family of 4!) and we saw a multitude of animals from our room patio (and we were not facing the Sand river). The best surprise was the free daily laundry – which was perfect with our very light packing approach to our South African tour. And seeing the Big 5 on our very first game drive was fantastic. MalaMala is expensive, but well worth every penny. Make sure you have breakfast in the bush one day. Flying Federal Air right into their game reserve air strip was a huge plus but the new airport in Kruger is only 40 minute drive away with direct flights to Cape Town and J’Burg. We will be back!”

“Didn’t really expect much from what I had heard about safaris in Kenya, etc. (Drive for hours and perhaps spot a grazing animal or two). Nothing could have prepared me for the thrill of following a pride of lions for four days. Being 10′ away from magnificent leopards (and adorable cubs). Nearly extinct rhino. Elusive cheetah. Too many more to mention. Room overlooking the river was delightful. Fun being on our deck and watching elephants drink in front of us. Every amenity. AND what woman doesn’t love her very own personal bath and dressing room?! We lucked out with Robin, our great and knowledgeable Ranger. Also, simpatico couple on safari rides. All the staff terrific. Food wonderful. Sensational sunrises/sunsets. Sigh. I want to live there.”
