Londolozi Pioneer, & rates, Sabi Sands Game Reserve, South Africa

Londolozi’s Pioneer Camp is located in the Londolozi Reserve in the heart of the Sabi Sands. It helps to form part of the Greater Kruger which is located to the West of the Kruger National Park. Pioneer Camp was recently redesigned and now reflects Londolozi’s early history of a bygone era. It is the most secluded of Londolozi’s camp and although it is one of Londolozi’s more pricey camps, the exclusivity and privacy offered certainly makes it worth it.

Londolozi Pioneer – The Details

A real Out of Africa feel and ingenious design of glass skyways allowing suites to inter lead, Pioneer Camp now is one of the most truly flexible camps in the Sabi Sands allowing it to be turned into a family homestead for 12 people. With an interactive kitchen, private butler, private ranger and camp staff make it the ultimate family bush home.

The three interconnected private suites of Pioneer Camp are set amongst the shade of ebony trees with superb river views; making them a firm choice for private getaways.

Each room is lavishly decorated and a fully-stocked mini bar, air-conditioning and beauitful bathrooms cater for every need. The bathrooms are classic Victorian with modern accents which continue the pervading sense of history that runs in the camp, reiterated by the restored memorabilia dotted throughout.

Where Pioneer Camp really excels is in it’s family feel. The open and spacious kitchen and lounge area in the main lodge invites everyone to take part in conversation and frivolities, and for those wishing to learn how to create some beautiful African cuisine, the chefs love showing guests how it is done.

The look-out deck, breakfast balcony and full-length lap pool invite the group to spend time with each other and share stories whilst enjoying the stunning river views. Although facilities such as the gym, spa and photographic suite are located away from Pioneer and by Tree Camp, the comfort and beauty of pioneer will make you not want to leave in between game drives.

Game drives are completed with a private vehicle in Londolozi’s stunning traverse in the heart of the Sabi Sands. The density of Big 5 game is extremely high and viewing, especially of leopard, is exceptional. Londolozi only partly shares their traverse with Singita, which means sightings are intimate and unobtrusive and the likelihood of seeing another vehicle whilst out is slim.

Combining a stay at Londolozi with a visit to Tswalu in the Kalahari is a great combination for those seeking two different and exceptional safari experiences. The variety of wildlife and the diversity in habitat make them the perfect combination and with South Africa’s very good transport links, getting from one to the other isn’t too difficult.

After your safari (or in between your two safaris) a trip to Cape Town cannot be missed. This vibrant city if full of energy and natural wonders. From the V&A Waterfront which is full of shops, bars and restaurants to Table Mountain and the penguins of Boulder’s Beach, there is something for everyone here. With so much on offer, we recommend at least three nights in Cape Town to give you enough time to make the most everything on offer.
