Londolozi – Granite Suites – Londolozi Private Game Reserve
My wife and I stayed four days an Londolozi which is part of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve which shares a fence-less border with Kruger National Park. We stayed in the Private Granite Suites which is the newest lodging at Londolozi; it has only three suites, and therefore only accommodates three couples. The suites are standalone villas, a few minutes walk from the dinning pavallion which has a lounge, kitchen and dinning area with three tables. It has its own staff and manager,Trisha, who were very friendly and truly professional. The food and wine including champagne on arrival were excellent and included in the room price which was very expensive but worth it. The Pavillion and the three villas sit directly on the bank of the Sand River on top of a large natural grouping of granite rocks with an unobstructed view of the river. We stayed in Suite 3, and from our sitting room and deck saw many animals including elephants and lions! The suites are spectacular: they are permanent structures, not tents and are huge with multiple rooms and high wood ceilings, and are elegantly furnished, and each has a private deck with heated private plunge pool. The game drives were fantastic. We traveled in an open Land Rover with one other couple. We were driven by an experienced ranger, James Hobson, who was also an excellent driver, travelling off the road through the bush to get up close to the animals. James was also extremely knowledgeable about the native animals, birds and plants. We also had a very experienced tracker, Lodolozi uses both a ranger and tracker on each vehicle, and this proved very valuable as we successfully tracked several leopards and lions, which when located ignored our vehicle and sometimes walked by the side of the stopped vehicle only an arms length away. We saw the big five multiple times and many other animals including giraffes, hippos, zebras, wildebeest, impalas to mention a few. We visited the Varty Camp at Londolozi which is a short walk. It had eight Chalets and and a beautiful large dinning area, lounge, swimming pool and yoga deck. There are three other camps at Londolozi offering different types of accommodations and different price levels including some for families. All guest have morning and afternoon game drives and access to the same animals. We also had a private tour of the staff village and school and were warmly greeted and sung to by the children. The Varty family has owned Landolozi for over 80 years, and the members of the family can be seen actively managing it, and their values of respect for the environment and people are evident. Nelson Mandela wrote, ” During my long walk to freedom, I had the rare privilege to visit Londolozi. There I saw people of all races living in harmony amidst the beauty that Mother Nature offers. Londolozi represents a model of the dream I cherish for the future of nature preservation in our country.” Our vacation to South Africa was wonderful, and Londolozi was the key part of it.
From the moment we arrived at this beautiful oasis in the gorgeous Kruger Park area we were treated like Royalty. Our ranger, Lucien, was a continual wealth of knowledge and answered every question we had about the game and birds as if he was a walking textbook. He, like his darling friend, Nadia, were the best hosts and even shared meals with us. The food was great and very plentiful and the special things that they did for us were big surprises. My favorite was the cocktail party in the river!!!!! The suite was beautiful and so well kept. Of course we loved the plunge pool especially when some game would walk by. The massages were as good as any I have had anywhere and we really enjoyed our visit to the staff village where we learned more about tribal life. We will never forget this visit to our South African paradise. Thanks to all who made our trip special especially Lucien, Nadia, Momsa and James our valiant tracker!
My family rented the granite suites for 4 nights and we had an amazing time! The staff literally took care of us and we had the most amazing safari trips ever. This is the only place I will ever stay when I visit the Sabi Sands!
During our stay, Londolozi was threatened by a fire. Visible from camp. Situation handled superbly by staff. Guests out to afternoon game drive which included the view from the top of a hill of the raw power of nature. While we were out, lots of water put on lodges and fires under control by the time we got back. Beautiful dinner in the Boma and then off to sleep in our divine rooms. At no time were we concerned for our personal safety as the staff had everything under control. Bizarrely this probably heightened the experience even more. In the best possible way. Will be really spectacular in a couple of weeks with all the growth. Londolozi is not just a place. It is a state of mind,to which I would happily return to at any time.
We are a family of three ladies from Ireland and have spent 4 fantastic Christmas safari trips in the Granite Suites in Londolozi . We always stay in Granite Suite Two as the view from there is simply Amazing ! . This year we had some great Game viewing from our pool area while resting between the Game Drives . Lucian was our Game guide and he went out of his way to show us some unusual sights knowing that we are regular travellers .this year was the year for all the baby’s and Lucian made sure that we saw them all . We saw what nearly was a kill ….. That would have been a first for us but the but the Buffalo got away from the lions who all scraped his back in trying to pull him down .. Lucians experience and his manner with his guests makes him the perfect Guide . Nadia looked after our every need when we were not on Safari and together they made a perfect team . On Christmas Eve David and Kate who previously managed the Granite Suite joined us to celebrate Christmas which made the night very special. There are so many beautiful places in the world to visit but in our experience none have measured up to the wonderful experience that we have had every time we visit the Granite Suites . Seeing is believing so go …… You will not regret it and you will not be disappointed . We have already booked for new year 2016 . The resort manager Duncan has the x Factor for us and we will continue to visit Duncan and the team of Londolozi as often as we can .
