Dulini Safari Lodge Review by Ginny

Dulini is owner-managed by a second-generation manager-guide and this is what sets the place apart. The rooms are more classic but no less opulent than those at THE most lauded and awarded lodges and the guiding and hosting is on a par. It really was top notch as indeed was the wine, the food and even the singing and dancing around the fire. Ian and Sue, the co-owners, stay at the lodge in the week but at weekends Manager Poppy is in charge. Interestingly, she is the daughter of Ian’s tracker when he guided at Dulini in the 90s when Dulini was only open for corporate guests. So there is quite a nice story of second generation staff returning to work here.

The only criticism I could level against Dulini is that it is at the edge of the Sabi Sand and so, as at Ulusaba, Savanna and others, you can see the lights of the community at night IF your guide takes you in that direction – which he can, of course avoid. However, the good guiding and really intimate, relaxed atmosphere would more than counter-balance that. Two game drives delivered lion, wild dog and then a clash between the two, rhino, leopard, giraffe, zebra, hyena and plenty of nyala.
